Marilyn J. Schmidt, age 65, of Alexandria, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. John Nepomuk Church, rural Lowry with Fr. Peter K. Kirchner, Jr. officiating. Private interment will take place at the Bohemian Independent Cemetery, Lake Mary Township.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Marilyn Jean was born on November 11, 1952, to Leroy and Adeline (Tvrdik) Kalina at Lady of Mercy Hospital in Alexandria.  She attended District Country School #456, through the eighth grade and graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in Alexandria in 1970.  Marilyn was united in marriage to John James Schmidt on November 20, 1970, at St. John Nepomuk.  Marilyn worked as a dietary aide for 26 years at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.  She retired in 2003, to help take care of her youngest granddaughter, Grace.  She was a former member of the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria.  Marilyn enjoyed riding horse and buggy with her husband, John, baking, spending time with her cats, and sewing quilts in her free time.  She liked to go to garage sales and especially enjoyed being with her three granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy; and mother-in-law, Maxine Schmidt.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; three sons, James (Tammy) Schmidt of Alexandria, Jason (Theresa) Schmidt of Rochester and Joshua Schmidt of Alexandria; brother, Larry (Kim) Kalina of Garfield; three granddaughters, Adelina Schmidt of Fargo, North Dakota, Marilee Schmidt and Grace Schmidt both of Alexandria; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; along with nieces and nephews.

Urnbearers are Adelina Schmidt, Marilee Schmidt, Grace Schmidt and James Schmidt.
