Hildegard E. Thompson

Hildegard E. Thompson, age 85, of Parkers Prairie, died on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Autumn Cottages in Alexandria.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music is provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich and soloist, Dedra Zwieg. Interment is at Woodside Cemetery in Woodside Township.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Hildegard Emilie was born on May 6, 1936, to Rudolf and Luise (Muller) Knapp in Weinheim, Germany. She graduated from Weinheim High School in 1950. Hildegard met her future husband, Laverne “Vernie” Thompson while he was serving in the military in Germany. They were united in marriage on April 16, 1955, in Weinheim. Following their marriage, they moved around before settling in Parkers Prairie. Together they owned and operated one of the local taverns. Vernie died in 1983, and Hildegard continued to live in Parkers Prairie and bartended until her retirement. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its LWML. Hildegard enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing, bowling, and gardening.

Hildegard lived the last few years of her life under the care of Prairie Senior Cottages (Knute Nelson Autumn Cottages) in Alexandria where she received excellent care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laverne “Vernie Thompson; and several siblings.

Hildegard is survived by her siblings in Germany; sister-in-law, Joyce (Bill) Hart; brother-in-law, Tom (Mavis) Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Pallbearers are Bob Bulik, John Schmitt, Bill Hart, Scott Hart, Hudson Due, and Mark Irons.
