Alice E. Giefer, age 95, of Alexandria, died on Monday, March 24, 2025, at her home at Grand Arbor.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Church of St. Mary in Alexandria with Fr. Dan Ruprecht presiding. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

The visitation is one hour prior to the service at church.

Alice Elizabeth was born on July 20, 1929, the fourth of eight children to Ferdinand and Catherine (Kutzma) Hubley in Hastings. She grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. Following her education, Alice became a secretary and worked for many organizations including Smead Manufacturing in Hastings and later for the St. Paul Warehouse Terminal Company. Alice joined the U.S. Government Foreign Service and was secretary for ambassadors in Ireland from 1959-1963, and Saudi Arabia from 1964-1965. From 1965-1966, she worked in Washington DC for the officers of Poland and Hungary. Alice returned to Hastings, Minnesota in 1966, where she worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. She was united in marriage to Charles Giefer in 1977, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. She retired early in 1984, and a year later, she and Charles moved to Alexandria where they built a home on Lake L’Homme Dieu. Together they volunteered for 30 years at the Douglas County Outreach Food Shelf. Alice was an active member of Church of St. Mary. In her spare time, she loved golfing, gardening, and was an avid painter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles on November 21, 2019; three sisters; and four brothers.

Alice is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

The urn bearers are her family.
